Sustainable forest management

Wood Paper is planted and cultivated in plantations that are replanted and are continuously regenerating and engine of the rural economy.

Timber from local plantations (97%)

97% of the 5.1 million m3 of timber that the Spanish industry pulp and paper used last year as raw material are from local pine and eucalyptus plantations, with growth of 10% in local procurement wood and a drastic fall in imports.

Generated rural employment grew by 11%

These local plantations occupied 450,790 hectares in 2015 (2.4% of the total area of forests in our country) and gave direct employment to 5,177 people (11% more than the previous year) and generate 16,675 non direct jobs.

Certified paper continues growth

We are the third EU country in forest area, what that represents a great opportunity.

54.4% of domestic manufacturing paper placed on the market is certified, an increase of eight percentage points over the previous year.

Efficient and responsible manufacturing process

Papermaking with less energy and less water and improving a vertical integration of use of raw materials and turning waste into resources is the working philosophy of an innovative industry in processes and products.

Biomass and cogeneration

The wastebasket in our country is the leader in the production and use of renewable energy from biomass industry. 28% of the fuel used in 2015 was biomass and biogas and natural gas rest.

Optimizing the use and consumption of water

The sector has a long tradition in the optimization of water use.

In the manufacture of cellulose were used 36 m3 of water per ton, of which only 3 m3 were consumed. The rest was returned properly debugged and after being re-used internally. In papermaking water use was 8 m3 per ton and consumption of 2 m3.

80% of process residues are valued

80% of waste from papermaking process became in 2015 again direct resources in agriculture or as compost, recycled as raw material in other industries or via energy recovery.
